Diving into AI can feel daunting especially for HR professionals who are new to artificial intelligence.

This is a quick guide to introduce HR professionals to AI so they can start using one of the most popular tools: ChatGPT.

The recent Recruiter Nation Report by Employ, Inc. (October 2023) indicates that a whopping 58% of recruiters and HR decision makers are already leveraging AI to augment their existing work processes.

However, for many HR professionals, diving into the world of Artificial Intelligence may seem daunting. This article aims to demystify the process and offer a beginner-friendly guide to utilizing AI in the HR domain.

There are 1,000’s of AI tools out there, some free and some paid. This guide is focused on getting started with the free version of ChatGPT. Why start here? Because ChatGPT is really easy to set up, free to use, and is surprisingly powerful.

What is ChatGPT, And What Does ‘GPT’ Mean?

The name "ChatGPT" reflects its ability to generate human-like text in a conversational manner. It's designed to simulate natural language conversations and provide responses based on the input it receives.

GPT, short for "Generative Pre-trained Transformer", represents a sophisticated software architecture that powers ChatGPT. It’s essentially a cutting-edge new software, developed by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.

How has ChatGPT helped HR Professionals?

Firstly, think of ChatGPT as a new type of google search. Much like google, there is an empty text-box waiting for your ‘prompt’ on the main screen. Simply type into the prompt area like you would google-search, and ChatGPT will provide you an answer in text format.

The possibilities for using ChatGPT in HR are literally endless. Here are a few quick things I asked ChatGPT that may give you ideas:

1. “Write me a job description for a business analyst role”.

2. “Provide a list of relevant skills for a Java Developer. “

3. “Write me an EEO statement for a 3,500 headcount manufacturing firm”

4. “Provide 20 interview questions for a Senior Account role.”
